Bears fans, I know you’re upset but now is not the time to become idiots.
There is never a moment in the existence of a Bears fan where losing to the Packers is acceptable or fun in any way. It blows. It sucks. It somehow blows AND sucks. Plus you have to deal with the slimy Packers fans who haunt your workplace or neighborhood, and spend an entire week glumly recalling the quagmire of football feces that splattered across your television in a 3 hour chunk.
It is remarkably unpleasant, and brings out a justifiable rage in all of us…
…but that gives us no reason to unravel into blubbering, hate-spouting buffoons. It seriously makes me wonder what the hell is in the Lake Michigan water sometimes.
After a loss like this, here is what I typically read as active solutions to the Bears franchise:
- Fire literally the entire coaching staff and management
- Replace the coaching staff and management with former players; preferably from the 80’s
- start the backup quarterback/running back/everything
- Run the 46 defense
It never fails. Somebody always feels like Dick Butkus would be a great head coach. He pretended to be a head coach for a high school football team for an MTV show which received a lot of negative attention. He was replaced as coach of an XFL team for Christ’s sake.
The inevitable begging to call up Gale Sayers or Mike Singletary makes me kind of queasy. Sayers has been such a maligned attention whore in the Chicago press over the years that it’s heavily damaged his reputation and legacy. There’s no shortage of moments where Sayers has chimed in to the local media with some clearly outrageous thought that has no basis in reality, but because he’s a Chicago sports icon of sorts, he knows they’ll publish it and name drop him on CSN-Chicago. If Singletary was such hot shit he wouldn’t be groveling to Leslie Frazier in Minnesota for a linebacker coach position.
It’s not a solution, so stop preaching that kind of braindead meatball nonsense. It’s embarrassing and makes our entire fanbase look retarded.
The Bears lost tonight. I admit it was painful, but it’s only week 2. The team has over a week to rest and prepare for a home game against the Rams, the Lions and Vikings had a HELL of a time beating the lowly Rams/Jaguars on week one, so the chances of the NFC North being deadlocked at 1-1 going into week 3 are pretty stellar.
So let’s all collectively breathe, burn the game film, and go into week three against St. Louis with some humility and come away with a well-planned and executed victory.
