Guys like that really don’t understand that there is life after football. I respect the league trying to better our game and guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely.
Bears WR Brandon Marshall’s response when asked about Brandon Meriweather’s numerous head-hunting hits
A lot of crazy rumors were swirling earlier about the NFL barring Brandon Marshall from the Giants game for violating uniform rules with his green cleats (to promote mental health week).
Just to be clear the NFL will NOT prevent Marshall from playing. He will be fined, and Marshall plans to match the fine amount as a donation to charity.
Several reports surfaced Wednesday indicating that Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall would not be allowed to wear his lime green cleats for Thursday night’s game against the Giants at Soldier Field.
Not so, an NFL spokesperson told the Tribune on Wednesday afternoon.
Marshall’s vow to wear those lime green cleats as a means of promoting his foundation and its work with mental health awareness can go on as planned. The Bears receiver would face a fine for doing so — which Marshall himself said he was anticipating when he spoke with reporters on Tuesday.
But the league said Marshall is “not being barred from entering the field” wearing the cleats.
According to the league’s 2013 schedule of fines, the minimum fine for a uniform or equipment violation is $5,250 for a first offense. The penalty doubles for a second offense.
Like I said since day one, I’m always going to make mistakes. That’s how I play. I’m going to continue to play that way. My emotion is going to be on my sleeve. I’ve played that way since I was 6 years old. I’ve cried when I was in Little League and I’ve cried since I’ve been in the NFL over games.
